Engineer's Day

Sir M.Visvesvaraya, was born on September 15, 1860 in a Kolar District, Bangaluru. At the age of 15 his father expired in Kurnool, A.P. Visvesvaraya completed his secondary schooling and joined central college in Bengaluru for completion of graduation. Later completed B.A. from madras University in 1881.

He is Indian engineer, scholar, statesman and the Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918.  He was appointed as a Knight Commander of the British Indian Empire (KCIE) by King George V for his contributions to the public good. He was the chief designer of the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad in Telangana, as well as the chief engineer responsible for the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara dam in Mysore. He is a recipient of the Indian Republic's highest honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1955.

Every year, on his birthday, 15 September is celebrated as Engineer's Day in India in his memory.
